Notes - The Baillie family of Polkemmet are said to trace their descent through the Baillies of Jervistown and of Carphin from the Baillies of Lamington, but they emerge into history only with the purchase of the Polkemmet estate in West Lothian at the beginning of the 17th century.
On Lady Baillie's death in 1974, Leeds Castle was handed over to a Trust charged with its preservation for public benefit.
