  Served in the Gordon Highlanders He lived at Finavon Castle, Forfarshire, Scotland. (Research): In 1843 Finavon Castle was bought by Thomas Gardyne of Middleton, whose descendant,the late Lieut.-Col. Alan D. Greenhill Grardyne, was the laird during theperiod of the excavations. Through an 18th-century marriage he came ofthe old Lindsay stock. Col. Greenhill Gardyne died in 1953, leaving the estate to his daughter, Mrs Susan Mazur, when, it seems it was sold.
