- OBITUARY: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 03, 1969 DEATHS
RAYMOND J. SHAPPARD, 73, of the Plaza Hotel and formerly of 206 S.Vermillion, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 2, 1969) at Lake ViewMemorial, where he had been a patient since Oct. 30. He had been infailing health a year. Mr. Shappard was born May 26, 1896, inMetropolis, son of Daniel A. and Cora Morgan Shappard. He came toDanville in Jan., 1937. In 1918, Mr. Shappard married Erma Brinker,who died in 1925. In 1926, he married Myrtle Clayton, who died in1962, and in 1964 he married Alice McCormick, who survives. He hadbeen a supervisor at the Danville Veterans Administration Hospital for25 years, retiring in 1961. An Army AEF veteran of World War I, hewas a member of the Pentecostal Church of God. His hobbies werefishing and gardening.
Surviving are his widow; five daughters, Mrs. Clinton (Corene) Haydenof Kankakee, Mrs. Dan (Imogene) Farmer of Lockport, Mrs. James (Norma)Hagle of Westville, Mrs. Earl (Doris) Jones and Mrs. Lyle (Betty)Alverson, both of Danville; four brothers, Charles of East Moline,Howard and Paul, both of Metropolis, Oswell of Moline; two sisters,Mrs. Fern Studnicky of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Dorothy Knight ofCarbondale; two step-daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Vivian) Piper and Mrs.Frank (Virginia) Bannon, both of Danville; 12 grandchildren; 11step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded indeath by a son, Raymond Jr., who was killed in action in Germanyduring World War II; two brothers and two sisters. Services will beat 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pentecostal Church of God, with the Rev.A. Dudash officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Lakeside Funeral Chapel.The family requests that memorials be in the form of contributions tothe Pentecostal Church of God Memorial Fund."
