Notes |
- "Reckless, rugged, adventurous type"
Served in Royal Irish Constabulary under older brother Colonel James. "Proved to be a problem and a worry to the colonel because he was headstrong and impetuous".
Accused of either shooting or knowing who shot someone in a riot between Protestants and Catholics in June 1821 in Borrisokane, Ireland. His brother the Colonel feared for his safety afterwards and arranged for him to leave the country with
his brothers Tom and John. Some sources claim he was smuggled out of the country in a coffin.
Trip across the Atlantic was in very rough weather andthe ship was blown off course, took 17 weeks to reach Montreal.
Worked on Rideau Canal project with brothers near Ottawa. His brothers settled near Ottawa.
Helped survey town of Biddulph, Ontario.
In 1831 when the remaining members of the Hodgins family emmigrated, Adam directed them to Middlesex County because of his experience as a surveyor.
Settled in Lucan, Ontario in 1832.
Said that the spirit of Adam lives at least once in every generation of his descendants.
