Notes |
- (Research):Said to be the son of King George IV, or his brother King William IV
But I have found no evidence, realistic or otherwise, that gives any cedence to this.
William Smith's mother, is believed by oral tradition [in our family], to have been Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Abel Smith, of the Smith Payne banking family, who was institutionalised on discovery of her pregnancy and died giving birth to William.
Illegitimate son of King William the 4th of England and Mrs Smith. British Consul to Lisbon from 1834 until his death in 1865. He had two marriages, to Sarah Connop (daughter of Lord Daires) in 1820 and to Eugenia de Menezes in 1839. He is presumed to have had a liaison with a Miss Magalhães in about 1835, from which a daughter, Arminda, was born.
I can find no trace of a Lord Daires
