- OBITUARY: "FORMER RESIDENT DIES AT 43
SGT. 1.C WILLIAM J. WATSON JR. (II), 43, a former Danville resident,died of a heart attack at his home in Clarksville, Tenn., at 1 p.m.Monday (Nov. 8, 1965). He had been in ill health three years,receiving a medical discharge from the Army in 1962. Born in DanvilleJuly 9, 1922, he was a son of William J. and Alice Shappard Watson.He was married Jan. 12, 1945, in Danville to Frieda May Williamson,who survives. He was a graduate of Oakwood High and attended IllinoisState University at Normal for two years. Sgt. Watson entered theArmy in 1940 and served in the South Pacific Theater with the 11th and101st Airborne Divisions. He later served with occupational forces inEurope after VE Day. His last assignment was with Special Services inOkinawa.
He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church of Danville and theVeterans of Foreign Wars of Clarksville. Also surviving are threedaughters, Mrs. Bradley (Carolyn) Johnson of Clarksville and Susan andDebbie at home; three sons, William J. III in the Army in Okinawa,Ferris E. in the Army at Ft. Jackson, S.C., and Kenneth at home.Also, his father, William J. Watson of Danville; two sisters, Mrs.Frank (Virginia) Bannon of San Antonio, Tex., and Mrs. Wayne (Vivian)Piper of Danville, and his stepfather and stepmother Ray Shappard andMrs. Helen Watson of Danville, and one grandson.
The body is at the Murphy Funeral Home in Clarksville. Services willbe at the South Chapel at Ft. Campbell, KY, with burial in the Ft.Donaldson National Cemetery at Dover, Tenn." [Transcribed 30 January2006, SLJuhl, Compiler]
