Notes |
- From Richard Hodgson
"You have Katherine Camppbell of Lundie marrying Alexander Russell ofNoncoffer. In fact she married Patrick, of Moncoffer (sometimes given asMontcoffer, but never Noncoffer). The house still stands, near Macduff. My father-in-law James Russell of Aden (where Patrick's grandson moved towhen he sold Moncoffer) is his 5G grandson.
The Alexander/ Patrick switch is entirely understandable since I see thatthe Duke of Argyll entry in Burkes Peerage (my copy is from 1934) giveshis name as Alexander Russell.
I also note you and everyone else on rootsweb has Colin Campbell ofLundie, 1st Baronet, as the son of the 6th earl of Argyll. My Burkes of1934, however, has the 1st Bt as the son of Colin Campbell of Lundie (nota Baronet). What is your source? Maybe later editions of Burke's haveupdated the story. In 1934 there was evidently some uncertainty as itsaid that the 2nd Bt (Katherine's father) was either son or grandson ofthe 1st Bt."
The 106th Edition of Burke's (1999) (& the 1970 Burke's) shows it asRichard Hodgson describes.
