Notes |
- Per his son, Earl Gene Wethington, "James William Wethington was theyoungest child of his parents Thomas Jefferson and Nancy EllenWethington. His mother Nancy died when he was four years old."
James, most often called "Bill Rowdy", and lived with his parents onthe two hundred acre farm on Woods Creek. When he was older he wentto work at the saw mill in Liberty, Kentucky. He worked at thesawmill some thirty years. The sawmill was owned by his father-n-lawFelix Sherman Grooms. Ova and James (Bill) had four children togetherfrom their marriage. He did some farming after he left the sawmill, and later retired at the age for a social security pension. James'sbrother Andrew MacDonald Wethington at his death, willed to James someland and a trailer in the area. James (Bill) lived there until hisdeath in 1987.
1). Etta/Edda is the family link. Earl Gene Wethington and Brenda LouWethington Gillock (brother and sister) are grandchildren ofLawrence/Thomas Jefferson Wethington through James William (Bill)Wethington. They both remember their aunt Edda (Etta) being marriedto Jimmy Cleary. The family tree listed on the Internet pageRootsWeb.com for Casey County, Kentucky mentions Etta being married toJimmy Cleary. This then ties together the family of BennettWethington down to Earl Gene, his sons Robert Gene & William Earl, andhis two sons Joshua Earl & Joseph Lee Wethington. Earl Gene's sistersalso have good size extended families, however Earl is the only son of William B. James Wethington (Dated: Feb. 20, 2004)
2). Also Andrew (Mack) left some land to James William (Bill) hisbrother. This would be Earl and Brenda's uncle since they are thechildren of James William. By the way, it was understood that afterJames William (Bill died) that the land was confiscated by thegovernment, because they knew that there was seven stills hidden onthe land. The only inheritance that Earl received was $50.00.
