He had a brotherEdward (4th son of 6th ) his daughter Mary Maxwell married Thomas Irving,their son William Irving married Katherine Menzies....... This sonWilliam Irving is a 2nd cousin therefore to William 5th Earl Nithsdale9th Lord Herries.(As mentioned escaped from Tower of London). William5th, 's father was Robert 4th Earl and his father was the above John 7thLord Herries 3rd Earl Nithsdale who in 1667 suceeded by special remainderby his kinship and became 3rd Earl Nithsdale, this kinship from Robert1st Earl descended from Lord Maxwell 5th Lord Maxwell.
