Thought you might be interested in this extract from page 32 of the book," Feuds, Forays, and Rebellions : History of the Highland Clans,1475-1625", by John L. Roberts, published in 1999 by Edinburgh UniversityPress:
"The death of James IV at the Battle of Flodden ushered in another longminority, for his eldest son was barely a year old in 1513 when hesucceeded his father as James V of Scotland. Almost immediately, thebanner of rebellion was raised in the north by the MacDonalds ofLochalsh, acting on behalf of Donald Dubh as the true heir to theLordship of the Isles, or so they claimed. As we have seen, AlexanderMacDonald of Lochalsh had attempted an earlier revolt in 1491, and againin 1494, before his murder by John MacIain of Ardnamurchan. After fallinginto the king's hands, his three sons were taken south to be educated inEdinburgh and his eldest son was later knighted by James IV as Sir DonaldGallda MacDonald upon the field of Flodden."
(Donald Gallda Macdonald is, I believe, my 4th cousin 14 times removed)
