  From the HISTORY OF ONTARIO COUNTY, compiled by Lewis Cass Aldrich, edited by George S. Conover, 1893, Samuel II was born in Rensselaer County December 5, 1802. Until the last few years of his life he always made his home in this town, and was a very prominent man. He was supervisor a number of terms, and in 1844 was elected assemblyman from his district. In politics he was a strong Democrat until the war when he became a Republican.
