- John Foster served during the Revolution as a Captain in Lieutenant
Colonel Harry Hampton's Regiment of South Carolina Light Dragoons. He was
wounded at the battle of Hanging Rock, and was paid "one grown negro" for
his service. DAR applications #557496 (Mary Elizabeth Hurt), #82106
(Miss Blanche Moore), and #92949 (Gertrude Foster) are based on
descendancy from John Foster.
