- Paul Trapier Hayne entered Confederate Service at the age of seventeen in
1863, enlisting in the Beaufort Artillery, then commanded by Captain H.
M. Stuart. He fought at Averasboro and Bentonville in North Carolina, and
was paroled at Greensboro. After teaching school in Georgia and spending
three years in New York City, he settled in Greenville, where he worked
as deputy clerk of the Federal Court.
Paul Trapier Hayne was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution,
National number 23334, based on descent from Isaac Hayne. (Charter Member
of South Carolina, State number 9)
