- A nephew of Sir George Brisbane, he suceeded Sir George Brisbane Douglas as 6th and last Baronet of Springwood.
is said that Sir James rapidly spent his way through two large inherited fortunes (buying a redundant destroyer after the second world war in order to cruise the Mediterranean) and died without issue and owing money.
James served in the 15th/19th King's Royal Hussars and the Lothians and Border Horse. He became a journalist and member of the Press Club and owned homes in Wiltshire and Cheshire.
