- Gregor, alias John Murray, nephew of Alasdair ruadh, b ~1599. last recorded 1639 (sold Glenstrae to Glenorchy in 1624)

1 - Gregor was Alasdairs nephew and and became chief of Clan Gregor with Alasdairs execution in 1604. Forced to sell Glenstrae to the Campbells in 1624.
2 - Gregour. Became 12th Chief in 1604. Given as a child into the custody of Murray of Tullibardine (his mothers kin). Adopted the name of Murray as did his two brothers. Became a tenant in Glenstrae.
3 - Gregor, of that Ilk, 12th Chief of Clan Gregor; took the alias 'John Murray' and was obliged to sell Glenstrae with the tower of Stronmelochan to Campbell of Glenorchy 1624, settling in Stirlingshire; during his boyhood the Clan Gregor were driven homeless into the hills, being hunted with bloodhounds and when caught the men butchered while the women were branded on their faces with a key-mark; those who survived were forced to take another name and in one case may well have been ancestors of that line of STEWARTs who were eventually ennobled as Marquesses of Londonderry, eventually the persecution abated and in 1626 as 'Laird of MacGregor' Gregor prosecuted Buchanan of Leny for the slaughter of some of the Clan Gregor; nevertheless he and his brother were imprisoned in Edinburgh for being MacGregors 1635-36; m Margaret Sinclair, widow of John Grant of Carron (murdered 1628), but dsp
