- "John de Botetourt, 1st Lord (d 25.11.1324, Admiral)
Many web sites show this John as a son of Edward Longshanks (King EdwardI of England), some as an illegitimate son, others as a legitimate son byEdward's second wife, Margaret of France. Neither TCP nor BE1883 make anymention of any such connection, TCP simply saying his "parentage isunknown". GenEU (Anjou) reports that King Edward had an illegitimate soncalled John Walter FitzRoy de Botetourte whose similar identification, ifhe indeed existed, may have led to this confusion. As TCP and, inparticular, BE1883 may have been expected to report the possibility of adescent from King Edward has such been considered possible, we suspectthat this connection is a relatively new 'discovery' and merely reportthe fact that (for reasons of which we are not aware) there are some whothink there was such a connection.
