- Colonel George Maclean of the Royal Artillery, was the son of Alexander Maclean and Lady Margaret Maclean of Ardgour, Scotland. His grandfather was John Hope, the second Earl of Hopetoun. George Maclean was Aide de Camp to the Governor of Ceylon in the 1840s and married Jane Amelia Campbell, the daughter of Sir Colin Campbell.
A carte de visite photograph of Colonel George Maclean of the Royal Artillery, was taken by Kilburn of London in about 1861. The reverse is inscribed in pencil 'Col. George Maclean R.A. husband to Minnie sister to my mother'.
