Hamish: I am sure you have guessed correctly as to Catherine's parents! I have a Dundas family history published in 1907 in Edinburgh which has a large family tree in the back. It indicates unequivocally that Catherine's mother was Marion Boyd, not Sir James Dundas' first wife, Janet Hepburn. Incidentally, this Sir James Dundas is usually referred toin the family as "1st Lord Arniston." This is not a hereditary title, but comes by virtue of his position in the legal hierarchy of Scotland.
He was knighted by Charles I; signed the National Covenant, 1629; servedas MP for Midlothian, 1648. Appointed a judge in the Court of Sessionafter the Restoration (1662-65), but stepped down when required by the Royalist government to renounce the Covenant.
