"NOTES: Cerdic, the Saxon Chieftain who founded the Kingdom of Wesses isalso considered the virtual founder of the British Monarchy. Earliergenealogy is considered legendary. The only qualification for kingship inearly days was that they should be descended from Cerdic. Otherwise, fitness to rule was the only other factor taken into consideration. Thegenealogy prior to Cerdic should be considered a reignal one and not oneof blood; as this always borders on legend. "

I should perhaps point out that I have heard mention that there might berumors afoot the some people, maybe even historians and researcher, mayhave cast doubt on the total historical accuracy of the information thatpredates Cerdic, soley because it is largely based on ancient myths, legends and Sagas. What is the world coming to?
