  He was an English amateur cricketer who made 13 known appearances in major cricket matches from 1797 to 1799. He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn as a barrister in 1802. He held the office of M.P. (Tory) for Lanarkshire between 1830 and 1832. He suffered from a seizure, which affected his speech in 1831.
