An old English custom carried over to early Fauquier required thatsomeone, usually the fathers post bond before a couple could marry.The amounts posted ran to $150 or $200. These earliest Fauquiermarriage bonds, gleaned from County records, were published originallyin various issues of the old Bulletin of the Fauquier HistoricalSociety.
