His first marriageprobably took place about 1785 in Jefferson County, but no record ofit has been found. Apparently two children were born to thismarriage, a son, Samuel Ketchum Sparks, and a daughter Rebecca Sparks. Daniel's wife may have died when their daughter was born. Accordingto the obituary of Samuel Ketchum Sparks, he "was about two years oldwhen his mother died." Since Samuel was born on August 10, 1786,Daniel's first wife must have died in 1788. Rebecca was born on March25, 1788."
