Mr. Spencer is the oldest of two children,his sister, Sarah Jane born Aug 6, 1855 died in this county June 10,1863; his father came to this county when 13 with his parents, Johnand Elizabeth Spencer; they died hereand are buried in the graveyardnorth of Portland Mills in Parke County; Jesse Spencer started life on$40 and at the time of his death Sept 19 1877, owned 635 acres ofland.
