  1. 1.  Marion Fleming was born in 1539 (daughter of William Fleming and Elizabeth Brisbane); died about 1585.

    Notes:

(Research):Although I show Marion as the daughter of William Fleming and Elizabeth Brisbane, a case has been made that she is the daughter of Sir Malcolm Fleming and his wife, Princess Joan, or Janet Stewart, daughter of King James IV of Scotland.

Family/Spouse: William Veitch. William (son of James Veitch and Margaret Cockburn) was born in 1535; died in 1602. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Children:
    1. John (of Dawyck) Veitch was born in 1557 in Dawyck Castle, Drummelzier, Peeblesshire, Scotland; died in 1606 in Dawyck Castle, Drummelzier, Peeblesshire, Scotland.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  William Fleming was born in 1532; died in 1556.

    Notes:

In 1518, and contemporary to John Fleming, 2nd Lord Fleming and William Fleming, of Bord, there is notice of a William Fleming of Boghall. There is some confusion regarding the estates "of Boghall". There is a Boghall castle, and its surrounding estate, that was part, indeed the principal seat, of the barony of Biggar, located in Lanarkshire. This estate was held by Lord Fleming of Biggar and Cumbernauld. However the estate, mentioned here, was the estates of Boghall, located in Renfrewshire. These lands, of Boghall in Renfrewshire, are in the Parish of Houston and Killellan and likely passed to the Flemings in a marriage to a Houston of Boghall, that married Malcolm Fleming, grandfather to the person depicted in this profile.

The Charter, noticed above, dated 6 June 1518, was an Agreement between William Fleming of Boghall and Alexander Rattray in Pitcur and George Halyburton of Gask. They become obliged to pursue the said William for warrandice of the lands and milne of Pitcur and others. It appears from this Charter that the superior lordship of Pitcur and its mill, held by Alexander Rattray, were being transferred from William Fleming of Boghall to George Halyburton of Gask. They would become part of the estates of the family known as Halyburton of Pitcur.

The Wigtown Charter Chest contains an Instrument, dated 11 June 1536 in front of Davud Hugons, notary, taken at the marriage of Robert Stirling of Ballinkeir and Mariota Fleming, stated as a natural daughter to William Fleming of Boghall, in the church of Calder, on a Dispensation from Mr. Gilbert Strachan, canonist of Aberdeen and commissionary from the apostolic See for that effect.

William + Elizabeth Brisbane. Elizabeth (daughter of 'Bonebraker' Brisbane) was born in 1517; died in 1557. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Elizabeth Brisbane was born in 1517 (daughter of 'Bonebraker' Brisbane); died in 1557.
    Children:
    1. 1. Marion Fleming was born in 1539; died about 1585.

Generation: 3

  1. 6.  'Bonebraker' Brisbane

    Notes:

The Brisbane name derives from the anglo french 'brise bane' meaning 'break bone' or 'bonebreaker'.

The first of the name in Scotland is William Brisbone who is among the list of archers sent from Berwick to Roxburgh in 1298 and who was most probably an Englishman.

    Children:
    1. 3. Elizabeth Brisbane was born in 1517; died in 1557.
