    ELMER FRENCH'S mother, ALICE LABAW FRENCH, 1858-1936, was a daughterof Benjamin and Elizabeth Smith LaBaw. Benjamin was a descendant ofPenelope Van Princin, who was ship wrecked at Sandy Hook off theJersey coast, later being rescued by friendly Indians and taken to NewYork where she married Richard Stout and in 1648 returned to MonmouthCo., NJ, as its first settlers.
    BENJAMIN LABAW (m. Elizabeth Smith) was a descendant of Penelope VanPrincin who was ship wrecked at Sandy Hook off the Jersey coast, laterbeing rescued by friendly Indians and taken to New York where shemarried Richard Stout and in c.1648 returned to Monmouth County, NewJersey as its first settlers.
    ELIZABETH SMITH LABAW was a descendant of the Martin and Otterbackfamilies, who were among the thirteen families from Muesen,Nassau-Siegen, Germany, who emigrated to Fauquier County, Virginia inc.1714 - starting the first iron works in the Virginia Colony."     The connection between the above families has been found. Pleasereview the register reports and follow the family lines for (1).Benjamin B. Labaw & Elizabeth Ann Smith, (2). Elizabeth Martin &Berryman Smith, and the couple (3). John Joseph Martin & MariaCatherine Otterbach. Elizabeth Ann Smith's grandmother is ElizabethMartin who is a direct descendant of John Joseph Martin from Muesen,Nassau - Siegen, Germany who settled in the first Germanna Colony ofFaquier County, Virginia in 1714. The family line has been tracedback to John Joseph Martin. A Michael Clore, a part of the Douglass/LaBaw descendants, or vice-versa (the families have extensivehistories of their own), is one of the first settlers to the samecolony in Faquier County, Virginia in 1717, just a few years later.These families are all related to each other through differentgenealogy lines. Conclusion: The families all had to have known eachother well for it was a very small community and they had all workedtogether and lived in the Fort together at Germanna, Virginia fornearly ten years until their passages to the new world were paid off.[SLJuhl, 30 Oct 2005]

    THIS WAS THE FIRST GERMAN COLONY TO SETTLE IN THE AMERICA'S INVIRGINIA IN 1714. THEN IRONICALLY, HER DESCENDANT DOROTHY MAEDOUGLASS MARRIED VERNIE TELL CLORE WHO WAS A DIRECT DESCENDANT FROMTHE SECOND GERMAN GROUP OF SETTLERS IN 1717 FROM THE SAME MUESEN,NAUSAU - SIEGEN, GERMANY THAT ALSO SETTLED WITH THE FIRST GROUP IN THEAMERICA'S IN VIRGINIA. THIS WOULD HAVE ONLY BEEN THREE YEARS LATER,AND THE ANCESTORS FROM THE MARTIN AND CLORE FAMILIES WOULD HAVE HAD TOLIVE TOGETHER FOR CLOSE TO TEN YEARS IN THE COLONY. THE NAME OF THECOLONY WAS GERMANNA, AND WAS LOCATED IN WHAT IS NOW FAQUIER COUNTY,VIRGINIA. THE WEB SITE FOR THE GERMANNA COLONIES CONTAINS A GREATDEAL OF INFORMATION ON THE TWO SETTLEMENTS TOGETHER FOR 1714 AND 1717.
