Sir John Owen, 1st Bt. was baptised with the name of John Lord. On circa 1809 his name was legally changed to John Owen on inheriting the estate of Sir Hugh Owen, 6th Bt. He was created 1st Baronet Owen, of Orielton, co. Pembroke [U.K.] on 12 January 1813.
