Notes:

1 - Malcolm farmed Monievreckie, and was in occupation of these lands from 1746 to 1755, as his four elder children were all born there. In 1759 we find him in Arnlamm, where his son Malcolm was born, and in 1762, in Milnling, where the youngest Alexander was born.

2 - The fine Marilyn of Craig of Monievreckie in the Menteith Hills near Aberfoyle. Although only 400m high, this is tough going at any time and the traverse of the range is surprisingly strenuous. With bottomless fresh snow on heather and bracken and a biting wind it was ridiculously hard. Dignified progress was not an option. But the sun was shining and the views took away any breath that the wind had left.

3 - Most challenging climb was Craig of Monievreckie. Tackling it from Arntamie looks fine, and is at first, but the route I took from there is not recommended unless you're fond of head-high bracken, thigh-depth heather and thistles, excess tree density, steep bouldery slopes, and a climb up the conglomerate of the Highland Boundary Fault (aided by a via ferrata in the shape of wire from a broken fence). I did reach the trig point and eventually one of the forest tracks down to Braeval car park. But there must be an easier way!

[Interesting comment this one as all three farns mentioned were all owned or tacked by Macfarlanes at some stage, Monievreckie by this Malcolm, Arntamie by his son Malcolm, & Braeval, where Macfarlane of Gartartan a cadet branch of Macfarlane of Arrochar, rebuilt Gartartan Castle in the 16th century & where Malcolm Macfarlane of Braeval (next to Malling) who was invited to a "Scotch Hairst Kirn" i.e. harvest festival, at the farm of Ledard on Loch Ard. Percy Yorke [the writer of the account of the event published in 1821] calls him, "Old Braeval", who had a son called Peter.]

4 - CRAIG OF MONIVRECKIE - A name applied to a large precipice at the south western extremity of "Monteith Hills"
MONTEITH HILLS - A range of hills, extending from "Creag Dhubh" on the south west, to "Creag a Bhacain", on the north east. The principal features are "Craig of Monievreckie" and ""Creag Dhubh". The spelling of this name to be ruled by that adopted for the parish of Port of Monteith.
