From
the BBC Home Counties Radio webpage, April 2004...
I have been
presenting breakfast live now for over 2 years and still cope with a 5 o
clock alarm call in spite of sometimes not a great deal of sleep the night
before. I was offered the job while on my boat fishing off the West Coast
of Wales and the boss called me mid pulling in a mackerel.
I am now
presenting the breakfast prog 6 mornings a week and it all seems to be
going quite well. In fact I gather that the listening figures for the
Surrey breakfast programme were at record levels for our last survey which
is encouraging! I do have a very good team who work much harder than me so
I think it is really down to them. A big thankyou to the producers who
have to put up with me and they do the REAL work. I just take the money.
I am off to
New York soon to revisit some of the people who I met whilst doing a
programme following Sept 11th. I love New York and am really looking
forward to a quick trip and no doubt you will all hear of my trip when I
get back. I also have planned another trip down under in the new year and
will certainly go via my favourite place that I am always going on
about...Dubai. I have some friends there in the hotel business and I love
the hot sunshine and the amazing facilities. From the moment of getting to
Heathrow and getting on the Emirates jet I really do have a wonderful
time!
I have also
been doing lots of talks recently to a wide variety of groups in the
Surrey area mainly and it is a good way to meet potential new listeners
and hopefully gets them listening in too. I do like getting out and about
like this and will have done more than 50 talks by the end of the year
from WI groups to Probus clubs, from Rotary to University of the 3rd age
groups..
There have
been a number of interesting stories we have discussed on the programme in
recent months including the tragic story of Millie Dowler which I really
think affected everyone not only in the studio but everyone in Surrey and
the country too..
However I
do have time for my usual early morning ramblings and no one is safe from
my ocassional outbusrts... so be warned!!
Away from
the BBC I work for a top London party planner which I have done for 15
years and also write travel articles for magazines and am a keen traveller.
