I am descended from Dr. Adam Douglas through his son Yarrow, my gggg grandfather. All this information is great, thank you all for sharing. There are no stories about the Douglas side in my family, maybe because Yarrow died during the Civil War and his daughter, Angeline Amelia, moved to Kansas, away from the rest of the family. She married Stephen A. Steepleton whose family was also from Harrison County and whose dad also died in the war. I found that there was a Adam Douglas that graduated from
Edinburgh University in 1791, most likely our Adam. Also I believe the Dodds also had a son named Yarrow. There is a parish of Yarrow in Scotland, perhaps that is where they are from?
And 'Millerie' writes:
Yarrow Douglas is my gggrandfather.
The Yarrow in Scotland you mentioned is located 9 miles west of Selkirk in the Scottish Borders near the Yarrow Water and is a lovely place. I don't know what to make of that.
Also:
EDWARD B. DOUGLAS was born in Boone township, Harrison county, October 27, 1842, and is a son of Yarrow and Mary ... Yarrow Douglas was the youngest of six children born to Dr. Adam Douglas. He was a miller, and, though beyond the age ...
