Notes |
- When James was born his father was tenant in Pirn in Stow parish. James apparently died at the age of 43 (per the 1896 "Border Magazine" article about his son Thomas) but I have so far not been able to trace a grave, or a record of his burial.
This age is the source of the approx. death-date I've given, calculating forward in time from his birthday.
Daughters Helen, Janet, Mary and Ann all went to Canada, married and had issue according to the 1956 Usher book. The only evidence for Ann appears in the Dr C. H. Usher's second draft of the tree. She is not in the first and also not mentioned in the letters of James N Usher. When asked, his father had "Two brothers John & James, & three sisters - Helen, Janet & Mary". Thus I have removed Ann from the current tree.
Dr. C. H. Usher's Typewritten tree says that James was later a brewer, which seems strange.
