- Succeeded his half-brother
James Stuart, merchant, and frequently a magistrate in Edinburgh. He was Lord Provost of that city in 1764-5, and again in 1768-9. He died 10th June 1777. He married Elizabeth, only surviving child and heiress of Adam Drummond of Binend (son to Adam Drummond of Megginch, descended of the family of Perth) Regius Professor of Anatomy in the University of Edinburgh, and by her, who died 11th November 1752, he had one son, Charles, of whom afterwards; and also a daughter, Margaret, married, in October 1770, to John Gordon, Esq; of Balmuir, W. S. who died in 1789, to whom she had fourteen children.
