- Sir Ralph William Anstruther of Balcaskie, 6th Bt. was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.
He gained the rank of Captain in 1877 in the service of the Royal Engineers. He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1883. He fought in the Expedition to Bechuanaland in 1885. He succeeded to the title of 6th Baronet Anstruther, of Wrae, co. Linlithgow [N.S., 1694] on 21 July 1886, and from 1698, "of Balcaskie, co. Fife" and "of Braemore, co. Caithness." He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 6th Fifeshire Volunteer Battalion, Royal Highlanders. He fought in the First World War. He was decorated with the award of Legion of Honour.
He graduated from St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland, with a honorary Doctor of Law (LL.D.).
He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Fife and Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Caithness.. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Fife and for Caithness. He was Honorary Colonel of the 6th/7th Battalion, Black Watch.
