"I have just seen your data on Abijah Wilford Skinner on World Connect atrootsweb.com and am interested in learning more about him if you havethat information. I have a list of his children by first wife, Mary JaneVernon and a list of his children by second wife, Eugenia born 17 Aug1867 in Mobile Alabama. I know that Abijah went to Texas with first wifeand his children by her and settled in Fannin Co Tx. Going with themwere his brother, Benjamin Allen Skinner and his family. Mary JaneVernon Skinner died about 1881/1885 in Texas. Abijah farmed out hischildren as he could not take care of them. He eventually marriedEugenia B 15 Nov 1885 in Meridian, Lauderdale Co Ms. They are found inMobile Co Al in the 1900 census and is a painter and in 1910 he andfamily are in Jefferson Co Al and he is a painter and paper hanger as arehis sons by Eugenia. I have been trying to learn about his and Eugenia'schildren and wonder if you are permitted to tell me anymore since most oftheir records say private. If I can learn who they married and wherethey lived I can find them in the census records.
I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you so much.
Sincerely, Nelda J Tarrer floydtarrer@msn.com"

"Abijah Wilford Skinner was born 1847 in Wilcox Co Al and died 6 Jan 1933in Powderly, Jefferson Co Al and buried in Elmwood Cemetery there. Hewas married in 10 Sep 1869 to Mary Jane Vernon in Wilcox Co and they had4 children, 2 in Alabama and 2 in Fannin Co Tx where they migrated circa1876. Mary Jane died sometime after the birth of their fourth child.Abijah farmed his children out to relatives because he could not takecare of them. He remarried 25 Nov 1885 to Eugenia B (she born 17 Aug1869) in Meridian Lauderdale Co Ms. They moved to Mobile Co Al and hewas a painter and paper hanger. They are in the 1900 Mobile Co Alcensus. By 1910 they are in Birmingham, Jefferson Co Al and have 8children who were Clara, Abijah Jr, Benjamin Russell, Ruth,Annie May,Leroy A, Louis Hagler and Georgia. He is a painter and paper hangingcontractor and his sons work as jobber in that area. I have not foundthem in 1920. But they were all still in that area of Birmingham as theyare listed as living there in 1933 (pension papers of Eugenia B).
Mary Alice found Louis Hagler Skinner in the SSDI. It is obviously thesame man.
Louis Skinner b 12 Feb 1905 d Feb 1987 SS# 262-03-6595 issued inFlorida. Last residence Tallapoosa, Haralson Co Ga
Bige Skinner b 13 June 1889 d Jan 1964 SS# 418-05-4181 issued inFlorida. Last residence Florida
Leroy Skinner b 12 Sep 1900 d Sep 1965 SS# 262-05-3450 issued Florida.Last residence Miami, Dade Co Florida
These are Louis' brothers. They obviously all went to Florida at somepoint after 1933.
I also have records of Abijah W's other children by Mary Jane Vernon andthey are William Lee Skinner and Lizzie M Skinner (married Marion Tatum).
William Lee did not like Eugenia B and went back to Fannin Co and livedwith his uncle, Trent Patillo. Lizzie married in Ms and is in the 1900Neshoba Co Ms and 1910 Leake Co Ms census....

"I have Abijah's death certificate, which mistakenly lists him as AbigeWellington Skinner, and photo of his gravestone and that of his secondwife Eugenia, both of whom are buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham,AL. I was told by other researchers that Abijah's middle name wasWilford, but I have no documentation of it myself."
