From an E-mail correspondance, 06/2002
Luther married Betsey Severy and they had 5
children(that lived anyway). Luther was in the war of 181 2 and was actually
a prisioner of war. They married in Vermont, went to New Y ork and then to
Michigin. There children were Alonzo, Orley & Orsemus (twi ns), Lucinda and
William. I am direct line from Orsemus. Luther drowned i n Erie PA in 1834.
A lot of the internet stuff says New York, however I have d ocumentation that
it was in PA. He had gone back to NY on business and drown ed on the way
back to MI. His wife and children continued to run the Hot el they owned for
a couple of more years and then farmed. Orsemus took his f amily to Emporia
Kansas in 1870 along with his brother William and Betsey br other Luther
Severy. William ended up returning to MI though after he s old his farm.
Orsemus and his wife Ann Jannette had six children, onl y 4 lived. His
oldest child was James Douglass, who's oldest child was Ear l Douglass, who's
only child was Claude Douglass my grandfather. I have a lo t of census work
and depositions and obits. I like the names and dates, bu t if I can find a
story, I am in heaven.
Would love to hear your stories. If you want any more info , let me know. I
just touched on the basics. I need to put this out on th e net. A lot on
Cyrus Douglass, however nothing on Luther.
Take Care
Lee Ann
