    Notes:

    With brothers Frederick and Alfred, departed Perth in 1869 "with 1000pounds inheritance" and travelled to Albany Western Australia, believing that Albany, as the coaling station for P&O would have better prospects than Fremantle.
    Owner of sailing ship Iris plying between south coast villages such as Fanny Cove, Bremer Bay and colony of South Australia. Activities of Capt. Will Douglas and brother Frederick instrumental in establishment of colonial customs "Watchers & Searchmen & Tide Waiters" on south coast. A member of the Adelaide (South Australia) metropolitan police in 1876.
    On the Noresman-Dundas goldfields in late 1894, small nugget sent by post to Emma Matilda. Anecdotal information suggests that his party took a condenser with them, and made a better living producing potable water from the salt lakes than they did from gold.
    Owner of steam launch Jessie., Perseverance. Held a Port of Albany licence to carry passengers & cargo on the waters of that port, dated 10 Oct 1896.
    By July 1899 was owner and captain of tug Dunskey and effected rescue in a small boat of 8 sailors off the wrecked "City of York" on Rottnest Island in that month.
    Established on the banks of the Kalgan River, Albany, in early 20th century, at old family home "Myola". Built large barge/boat "EMD" named after his wife Emma Matilda on the Kalgan to carry produce to the ships in the port,for export. Wreck lies under mud about 1 mile above lower Kalgan bridge.

Emma (daughter of Enoch Pearson Barratt and Mary Ann Flemin) was born on 23 Dec 1848 in Gilbert Street, Deptford, London; died on 17 Nov 1929 in South Perth, Western Australia.     Notes:

    Came to Western Australia on ship Victory with mother, Mary Ann (Fleming) and siblings, arriving on 24/3/1854. Her father Enoch Barratt was transported to Fremantle on the ship William Jardine (1/8/1852) following conviction in the Old Bailey London (12/5/1851), for theft of articles from London-South Brighton railway with brother George Pearson Barratt. Convict number 1338. He subsequently became Head Gardener for the City of Perth, and a marketgardener of some standing. Shafto Lane, previously Barratt Lane, was named after the family.
