I am writing a book on my FIELDING family of England. The progenitor ofthe Fielding family of England was Geoffrey Fielding who supposedly had abrother Thomas Fielding b. abt 1300 who m. Margery Hastings. I find verylittle info on this Thomas Fielding except by Nichols in his earlyLeicestershire records and Dugdale who mentions Henry Hastings in landinfo. ..

I was browsing in the GENDEX and noted your submission on MargeryHastings and the Hastings family. I was wondering if you have come acrossany Margery/Margorie/Margaret Hastings who married a Thomas Fielding orany reference to Fielding in your Hastings records/data. There was a hoaxperpetrated on our early ancestry by a Basil Fielding, Earl of Denbigh,in 1674 that was revealed by Horace Round in 1894. So, it is difficult toseparate fiction, falsehood, and truth in those early records becauseboth Dugdale and Nichols and other respected researchers in the 1600s'fell for' the hoax 'hook, line, and sinker'.

Thanks for your reponse re HASTINGS / FIELDING. The connection I amlooking for in about 1310 is not in the general descriptor documents suchas the peerage books, etc. I've searched them all and they are rathersurficial and House of Denbigh-focused... which earldom was conferredonly in 1622... much later than the early origins of these two familiesin the 1200s thereabouts. The 'Visitations' records come close,especially by both Dugdale and Nichols. Nichols in his 'History...Leicestershire' actually gives the marriage of Thomas Fielding [Felding]to Margery Hastings, but no clear reference to her Hastings familyconnection, except as vague reference to Henry (Sir) Hastings. So,perhaps I will come across someone who is deeply into the early Hastingsfamily research. The records are just not there for those very earlytimes and what IS there is confusing, contradictory, and some of itdownright in error. We in the Fielding family also have a very seriousfraudulant connection to the Hapsburg family of Europe.. concocted andpresented by the 2nd Earl of Denbigh about 1670.. that has been 'acancer' in our genealogy for 400 years... even Burkes Peerge 'fell forit' until about 1900 when they quietly deleted it from their publication.Separating fact from fiction from falsehood makes it all the moredifficult. Complicated stuff, eh.

I checked Burke's Peerage under "Denbigh and Desmond", which is aFeilding/Fielding family but I did not find Margery/Margorie/MargaretHastings who married a Thomas Fielding.
Also no luck from "Royal and Noble Genealogical Data on the Web" byBrian Tompsett athttp://www.dcs.hull.ac.uk/cgi-bin/gedlkup/n=royal?royal21939

Also in Burke's there are Hastings under Hastings, Loudoun, & Huntingdon,but in a quick check I did not see any obvious link.

They might be might be shown in THE COMPLETE PEERAGE but I do not haveaccess to that.
