MacLeods of Uilinish - who are descended from Roderick MacLeod, 5th sonof Donald MacLeod, 1st of the MacLeods of Greshornish, who was the 5thson of Sir Roderick Mor MacLeod, 15th Chief.

Roderick, founder of the MacLeods of Uilinish, married Margaret MacLeod,daughter of John MacLeod, 2nd of the MacLeods of Talisker. One of theirchildren was named Margaret. According to "The MacLeods - The Genealogyof A Clan, Section Two", by Rev. Dr. Donald MacKinnon and Alick Morrison,this Margaret married (marriage contract dated 12th August 1727) JohnMacKinnon, son of John Dubh MacKinnon, 17th Chief of the MacKinnon's.They had a daughter named Florence (Flora) who married Ranald MacDonald,18th Captain of Clanranald, with issue: John Moidartach; James; Margaret;Mary and Penelope.

Now the problem comes in - I believe you have that Ranald MacDonald, 18thof Clanranald married Flora MacKinnon, daughter of Ian Og MacKinnon andIsabella MacDonald, of Castleton, but the children's names andinformation pertaining to them are the same. I was wondering if you wouldmind sharing with me where you got this information? We are quiteconfused, and the only source we have is the Clan MacLeod, Section IIbook."

My information is from:
Burke's Landed Gentry under "Mackinnon of Mackinnon" which starts, forsome reason with the 28th Chief. It shows that Ian Og (son Daniel Mor29th Mackinnon of Mackinnon) married Isabella daughter of Ian Macdonaldof Castleton and died without male heirs. Ian and John areinterchangeable, but the fact that he his called Ian Og (Ian the Younger)seems a little odd if his father was Daniel.

Burke's Landed Gentry under "MacDonald of Clanranald" of Mackinnon" itshows Ranald MacDonald, 18th Captain of Clanranald's, 2nd wife was Floradaughter of Ian Mackinnon, yr of Mackinnon.

Also at Roddy Macdonald's web page (Now called The Clan Donald GenealogyDatabase) it shows the Ranald MacDonald, 18th Captain of Clanranald'swife Flora Macleod athttp://www.macdonald50.freeserve.co.uk/genealogy/d0000/g0000073.html#I1156
this shows her parents as
Father: Iain Og MACKINNON
Mother: Isabella MACDONALD of Castleton
But does not show who Ian Og's parents were. (Flora's REFERENCE is 1156,although I can not find what that refers to.)

I should point out that Burke's is not always accurate although they havea new edition

It seems to me quite possible (particularly given the Ian OG part) that"The MacLeods - The Genealogy of A Clan, Section Two", by Rev. Dr. DonaldMacKinnon and Alick Morrison could indeed have it right.

The big difference in the numbers for the chiefs is also curious as thedates are similar.
Anyone got more information?
