He was Sir/6th (sometimes3rd) High Steward from 1291-1326/Regent of Scotland, and Commander atBannockburn, 1314. Prior to Marjorie he was married to Alice Erskine.They had one child, Jean Stewart. After Marjorie's death he marriedIsabel de Graham,. She was born about 1298 Abercorn, West Lothian,Scotland. They had one child, Edigia Stewart. of Scotland. They weremarried 10/3/1376. He was Knighted in 1377; John (Sir) was madeKing-at-arms, the right to carry "double treasure fleuried and counter,fleuried in the bearing." Glamis Castle, royal resident since KingKenith I, 50 AD, was passed to John de Lyon and he was made Lord Glamis,and later High Lord Chamberlain of Scotland, and Ambassador to England.He became the head of the Lyon family of Scotland. He was a young man ofvery good parts and qualities, graceful and comely, and a great favoriteof the King. Being very fair he was known as the White Lyon.

LYON GENEALOGY

The old world records and New England history of the Lyon families, asconcerns the family of Marcus Ruel Lyon, his old world background and thehistory of his ancestors of the New World families.

The history of the Lyon family as it goes from the chapter of one centuryto the chapter of the next, in it's mysterious reality has thefascination of fiction. We ourselves have been apart of all the tragedy(old world) and death.

In Leon (Lyon) Normandy, France, [de Leonne from "Leones" of Rome] livedGodfrey Louvein or Lowen, Duke of Brabant, head of the Lyon family. Hisdaughter, Adelecia, the fair maid of Brabant, married Henry I in 1120.(This alliance gave rise to the use of the lion in the royal arms). TheCastle of Lyons, near Rouen, gave much delight to the Anglo-NormanMonarch, and he died there. He hunted in the forest of Lyons and ateheartily of his favorite dish, stewed lampreys, and died of "surfeit"seven days later.

At the time of the expedition against the Saxon King of England, (Harold)one of the Leonne, an adventurous personage, with his followers, joinedthe banners of Duke William the Conqueror of Normandy. This deLeonne(Godfrey Louven or Lowen, the progenitor of the Lyon family of Englandand Scotland, held a considerable command in the invading army. Perhapsthe love of fighting as a diurnal occupation or for what he expected toget out of it. Leonne realized his opulent anticipations for he remainedin England and brought over his son, Roger (Sir) de Leonne, born inFrance 1040. In his adopted country he furthered the fortunes of thefamily. War was a profitable past time. So he donned his harness androde with Atheling into Scotland to depose Donald Bain. For this goodand faithful service in 1091 he obtained from King Edgar certain lands inPerthshire, Scotland to which he gave the name of Glen Lyon (1091).

Head of the family of Leon, Leonne or Lyon of Normandy. He led theBastordes into England and remained there. He sent for his son, Roger(Sir) de Leonne.
2 Adelecia, married King Henry I in 1120. This alliance gaverise to the use of the Lion in the Royal Arms and Castle of Lyons in LyonForest near Rouen, where Godfrey lived.
2 Roger (Sir) de Lyon (Leonne) [Circa King Edgar]. Born inFrance, 1040, lived in England, later in Scotland, obtained lands inPerthshire, Scotland, named Glen Lyon in 1091. By grant or gift of KingEdgar for the successful expedition in Scotland (1066). Died between1059-1091.
3 Sir Paganus de Leonne [Circa Henry I]. Born in England in1080, he went to the Holy Land and traced his family linage to Kings ofLeone, Rome, Italy in 409. He fought for Henry I, settled in England.Died 1099-1169.
4 Hugo (Hugh) de Leonibus. [Circa Henry II] He was born in 1120.He was seized of lands in the county of Norfolk, England. Died 1153-1213.
5 Ernald de Leonebus [Circa King John I, 1199] He was born in1140 (1150?) in Norfolk, England. Died 1171-1240. William the Conquerorstumbled upon Sussex's soil. "See Seignior! By the splendor of God, Ihave seized England in my two hands." Land greed besets theirdescendants even to this day.
6 John de Leonebus (Lyon). [Circa Edward I] Born 1175. At thispoint the name is orthographically simplfied as it came down to us.(Lyon). He married Marjory de Oakey.
6 Pagan de Leonibus (Leon). Born 1200, Norfolk, England. Hemarried Yvette de Ferris (Yvette Referrers), born 1183-1206.
7 John (Sir) de Lyons, Knight. [Circa Edward II] Born 1225,Norfolk, England. Died in 1316 and is buried in Warkworth Church. Wassummoned to perform military service against the Scots, 1294. Edward IIsubdued Scotland. Married Marjory de Ackle, born 1226.
7 John de Lyon, Feudal Baron of Forteviot. Born about 1250,Norfolk, England. (Forteviot was one of the first Celtic thaneages.)
8 John de Lyon, born 1272 in Scotland, died 1292-1362.
9 Adam (Sir) Lyon, Knight, first son of Baron of Forteviot, born1285,Norfolk, England died 1383.

This information is from Sandi Hartnell. However given the problem withthe dates of Roger (Sir) de Lyon (if the son of Godfrey Louvain orLowen, Duke of Brabant, he would have been born before his grandfather. Ihave changed his father to Lambert II Count of Barbant & Louvain. This isobviously a wild guess and needs more research.

Also the dates & names of the 7th , 8th & 9th generations seem a bitawkward. So I have show the 7th generation John de Lyon, Feudal Baron ofForteviot as son, not brother, of John (Sir) de Lyons, Knight.
Also Adam (Sir) Lyon, Knight's father was 13 when he was born, a bitunlikely so I show them as brothers. These too are obviously a wild guessand need more research.
